Leather Care
To understand the importance of good leather care we really need to start at the very beginning and look briefly at the whole picture.

Leather is a tanned animal skin, or hide which has been rendered rot proof by the tanning process. The origin of the hide, the tanning and subsequent currying processes will dictate the quality of the resulting leather hide, or butt and ultimatley the resulting product meaning not all
leather is  the same quality, not even English leather. The whole process takes many months to complete.

We are often asked why we use only J&E Sedgwick and the answer is simple, we believe it is the best.
Sedgwicks are the last remaining specialist  hand finishing curriers in the world their leather has the reputation of being the world's finest bridle leather and is the leather of choice for the Queen's Royal Artillery.
The vegetable tanned Bridle Backs are the most labour intensive product Sedgwick produce. They are traditionally pit tanned, hand curried and inspected by the Master Currier in Walsall in the heart of England's Saddlery and Leather Centre to ensure even quality and the most supple product available.

These butts are delivered just down the road to our bridle maker where they are transformed from flat butts to beautifully crafted bridles and accessories that are hand stitched with waxed thread to provide a long lasting individual piece of craftsmanship.

The need to continue to care for a product that has lovingly passed through the hands of so many skilled craftsmen and women is self evident.
